Mantova is bordered on three sides by lakes, boat trips are available should you wish to explore them.  

The highlight of the town is the immense Palazzo Ducale, with over 500 rooms containing many famous works of art. Verdi used Mantova as the setting for his opera Rigoletto. A really pleasant historical town with less hustle and bustle than most.
