It is criss-crossed by a network of canals and surrounded by splendid valleys – an area of over 11,000 hectares comprising patches of water, ridges and salt marshes which has been designated as a natural museum open to the public.

Comacchio is a delightful town which has a long history. Sandwiched on the Adriatic coast between Venice and Ravenna, the superpowers of the middle ages, the town grew prosperous from the production of salt. Comacchio is crossed by many canals which cover the fact that the town is actually made up of 13 islands. The famous landmark of the 'Tre Ponti' is not to be missed, as well as savouring the local speciality - eels.
